Choosing a wedding date can be an overwhelming choice. What if ______ is busy that day and can’t come? What if it’s too cold in that time of year for the outdoor ceremony I want? What if _________? 

Instead of getting overwhelmed but the what if’s, here’s three things to ask yourself as you narrow down your wedding date:

What season do you want to get married in? 

If you have a specific design and vision for your day, it usually is best served in one season instead of another. For instance, if you want an outdoor ceremony and reception, I wouldn’t pick anytime between December and March in Kentucky. Far too risky of freezing temperatures that would change your plans. 

Do you have any life circumstances that make it easier to get married in one month vs another? 

This one is major. You know your life! If you’re a teacher or college/graduate student, it’s usually easier to get married over summer break so you don’t have to take off time in the school year for your wedding and honeymoon. If your lease is up in August, maybe it’s a good time to plan a wedding around so you can move in with your fiance as soon as you’re married. If your sibling is getting married in the same year, it’s usually a good idea to plan those events a few months apart to give more flexibility to your family and finances. 

These things are usually pretty obvious, but talk it out with your fiance, family, and future in-laws. 

When is my favorite venue available? 

Now this one might seem wrong, but I recommend narrowing in on a month or two range of wedding date flexibility, touring a few venues, and selecting a date when you choose the venue you love based off of their availability. This will ensure you find the venue you love, that’s within budget, and going to serve you best on your wedding day! 

This doesn’t mean you can’t come into venue shopping with a list of dates your prefer, but if you can come into it with some flexibility, it will help you as you decide where you want to tie the knot!
